Sustainability in the office

Sustainability is increasingly important in recent years, and in 2023 we will see another increase in emphasis on creating sustainable workspaces.

Designing with sustainability in mind might have its difficulties, but there are now plenty of amazing companies that build furniture with sustainability as the forefront of design.

Boss Design pride themselves in investing 4% of their turnover per year back into research and development, with the majority of that devoted to sustainable furniture. That may seem like a small amount of money to some, but this is a huge step forward in the right direction. More and more companies are now following in Boss Designs footsteps for producing ranges with sustainability in mind.

The Sia chair (pictured below) uses over 70% recycled content at the time of manufacture, and when you come to dispose of the chair 99% of it can be recycled. If you would like to know more information on any of our furniture with regards to its sustainability, we’d be happy to share this information with you.

Another supplier working to improve its sustainability programmes is Ocee Design. Ocee Design has already been given the EU Ecolabel certification on two of their ranges. This certification is applied to products that present low harm to humans and the environment. Going forward they pledge to consider these certification requirements for all products designed. The plan is to design more and more ranges that will pass certifications. By 2024 Ocee aim to use 100% renewable energy, which is an amazing figure.

Packaging is something we can all help recycle, all packaging which is taken from site is recycled back at Leicester office furnishers HQ. Dams packaging is 84% recycled and 100% recyclable. In fact they use MDF off cuts from furniture in the corners of their boxes which we think is a great idea!

When you buy from us, we know that you are buying good quality furniture. Furniture which is built to last. This in itself is sustainable. We want to design workspaces with sustainability in mind. When talking through plans for refurbishment work, we will always ask about how your business could grow. We aim to use furniture that is fit for purpose. Furniture on wheels can be moved from one office space to another and be multifunctional. Take the worklab module below, this piece of furniture can be used in so many settings. Use it as a desk, as a media unit, add a whiteboard to the back for meetings, use it as a room divider, the possibilities are endless. Getting it right first time is key to reduce product waste.
