Taylor Wimpey Commercial Interior Design East Midlands
After 15 years Taylor Wimpey was ready for a revamp. The cracks were starting to show, so it was time to get our team in and update their offices.
The brief - to open up the dark bookcare lined corridors and create a light and airy office once again, but retaining the corporate image throughout.

Space
Introducing the strategically placed curved walls and floor to ceiling glass doors the team added a sense of fluidity to the office. The light now floods into all areas which in turn creates a sense of space.
Colours
A fairly neutral colour palette was the starting point of the design. 2 paint colours were selected for the walls along with a neutral grey brick wallpaper. This created some pattern interest on certain feature walls throughout the building. Taylor Wimpey were keen to keep the strong corporate colours running through areas and so purple carpet tiles were specified for the directors offices and boardroom, elsewhere black/ light grey striped carpet tiles were laid.
Reception
The reception area had to be one of the focal points of the project. Staff and customers would also walk through this area and so it had to be inviting as well as practical. The reception desk was re positioned so that deliveries and visitors could be seen through the windows in the car park. The reception desk itself was a bespoke custom made design. We had this built specifically for this area and incorporated the Taylor Wimpey purple and red colours.
Storage
HiStore built in storage replaced the mismatched bookcases, cupboards and filing cabinets. HiStore storage wall maximises office storage potential as it is designed to fit floor to ceiling and to whatever width is specified, it also creates a very neat and professional finish. Within the HiStore units were pigeon holes, coat rails and standard shelving. The boardroom unit also housed the television used for meetings. In other areas of the office we used freestanding cupboards, often in a white finish to contrast again the walnut office desk tops. We use white storage units a lot in offices to create a sense of space and cleanliness.
The refurbishments for this particular project included
- Office interior design and space planning.
- New office partitioning throughout (solid and glazed), where the new layout allowed we kept existing partitions to help with cost-saving
- Manifestations applied to the glass partitions
- Mezzanine floor erected above reception to extend the first floor kitchen and staff breakout area
- Electrical modifications
- New air conditioning system
- Plumbing alterations and modifications
- New insulation to the first floor
- Replacement of all internal doors
- Decoration throughout
- Suspended ceiling (For the majority we kept the existing ceiling grid and just replaced the ceiling tiles – again cost saving)
- New modular and spot lights throughout, we used LED bulbs for longevity
- Both the kitchens and the WC’s were refurbished with new kitchen units and splashbacks. WC’s had all new sanitary ware and cubicles
- Flooring was replaced throughout with a combination of carpet tiles and vinyl. Entrance matting was used at the reception doors
- New furniture and seating throughout
- New roller, blackout blinds to all of the windows
Taylor Wimpey East Midlands had to remain as a working office throughout this project, to accommodate this we phased the refurbishment work into six phases. By liaising carefully with our contact, we moved departments around and relocated staff into temporary locations whilst various areas were being refurbished. Particularly noisy or intrusive works were completed out-of-hours to keep disruption to an absolute minimum. We are very proud of this project and we hear Taylor Wimpey are too! Please take a look at the pictures to see a glimpse of the finished project.
